Welcome to the Education Haiti website, from John and Bev Chappelle!
Education Haiti was born out of our first visit to Haiti. Our friend Karen was spending her second Christmas there and invited us to come to be with her. It was a life changing experience. When we boarded the plane to come home we really struggled with leaving. We arrived back in Nova Scotia not knowing how we could possibly help, but knew in our hearts that we could not live in this wonderful land of Canada and do nothing to help those who are less fortunate than ourselves. The need is so great! The next morning I [Bev] woke with the word “education.” “How Lord is that possible, were my words. I felt overwhelmed but then a small quiet voice said refundables and I spoke this to John and we ran with it. This was in 1997. The first year we raised just over $1000 and it has slowly grown over the past 10 years, last year our total was $9,500 for the year. We realize that there are still so many children needing help in Haiti but we must not focus on the big picture but rejoice with each child who Education Haiti Outreach has been able to help. As someone once said, “How do you eat an elephant?” answer, “one bite at a time!” |
